📜 Divine History & Legend

Established in the 17th century (1689), the temple enshrines an 8-foot-tall wooden idol of Goddess Marikamba. The biennial Jatra is organized to ward off diseases and invite prosperity for the forest-dwelling communities of the Western Ghats. The Goddess is treated as the daughter of the town, returning home during the festival.
