📜 Divine History & Legend

The shrine is dedicated to Renuka, the wife of Sage Jamadagni and mother of Lord Parashurama. According to legend, Renuka was beheaded by her son Parashurama on his father's orders but was later resurrected with divine powers, becoming the mother goddess Yellamma (mother of all). The temple has a rich history from the Rashtrakuta and Chalukya eras.

This Jatre is one of the largest gatherings of rural devotees in South India, celebrating maternal resilience and forgiveness. The air on the hill is constantly filled with chants of 'Udu Udu Yellamma' and clouds of yellow turmeric powder.
