Nanjangud, known as the 'Dakshina Kashi', hosts the massive temple of Lord Srikanteshwara (He who drank poison). The temple dates back to the Ganga dynasty, with expansions by the Hoysalas and Wadiyars. The Dodda Jatre features the pulling of five massive chariots (Gautama Ratha, Ganapathy Ratha, Subramanya Ratha, Chandikeshwara Ratha, and Parvathi Ratha).
