📜 Divine History & Legend

Dating back to the 15th century Vijayanagara Empire and continued by the Wadiyars of Mysuru since 1610, this festival honors Chamundeshwari, the warrior goddess. In Hindu history, the region of Mysuru (Mahishur) was ruled by the buffalo demon Mahishasura. Goddess Parvati descended as Chamundeshwari, fought a fierce battle on the hills, and slayed him on Vijayadashami day. This Jatra represents the supreme victory of righteousness (Dharma) over evil.

1
Special Abhisheka and worship of Goddess Chamundeshwari atop Chamundi Hills.
2
