📜 Divine History & Legend
Gokarna is the holy place where Ravana was tricked by Ganesha into placing the Atmalinga (obtained from Shiva) on the ground, which then became fixed (Mahabaleshwar). The Jatre commemorates this epic Ramayana legend. The main chariot, Maha Ratha, stands over 40 feet tall and is built fresh every year using traditional woodcarving techniques.

✨ Spiritual Significance
“The Gokarna Jatre is an extraordinary union of ancient myth, Vedic rituals, and ocean breeze. It is one of the most sacred spots in India for Shaivism, and the dramatic chariot pull along the narrow streets is a spectacular site of pure devotion.”
